MSYS Version 1.14 April, 1993
(c) Copyright 1993 HUB Computers, Inc. All rights reserved.
The MSYS programs and related files may be copied for amateur
use provided no fee is charged. Commercial use is prohibited.
Major changes in this version:
* FBB compatible compression
* YAPP protocol support
* Extended memory support
* Documentation greatly revised
* User manual
* MSYST user terminal program
* DX Node and AMTOR support (temporarily) dropped
There are three disks in this version. See list of files on
each disk below.
Disk 1 - MSYS114.EXE self-extracting archive name -
Required executable programs and data files
Disk 2 - MOPT114.EXE self-extracting archive name -
Documentation files and my latest BBSLIST.DAT file
Disk 3 - MSYSB114.EXE self-expanding archive name -
BBS only version of MSYS (no netnode or TCP/IP,
saves 100K memory) and various contributed support files
In the US, each disk is $5. To Canada, its $7.50 per disk. To
other countries its $10 per disk which includes air mail
postage. These prices all include the disk, mailer and postage.
I do not take Visa/Mastercard etc (do you?). No CODs either!
Send requests for disks to

Be sure to give your name, call, and complete address, and what
version and disk(s) you want. All disks are 5.25 inch 360K
disks.
The MSYS release files are available on Cleveland Hamnet telephone BBS.
Telephone numbers are 216-942-6382 and 216-942-7516. If you make use of
this facility you might consider sending the Sysop (Dave, WB8APD) a
buck or two to support that excellent system. Baud rates have been
increased to support up to 9600 bps on both lines now.
Special thanks go to Don, K8EIW, who did an excellent job in
rewriting the MSYS Manual. Thanks also to Steve, NO8M, for a user
manual. These two have also been very helpful in testing out
over a hundred versions of MSYS since the last release.
A couple of important notes
---------------------------
It is not clear that compressed forwarding is legal in the US.
It is up to you to decide if you want to do it. The new support
for extended memory should be used only if you can't provide
expanded memory as the extended memory is noticeably slower and
doesn't give quite as much free memory as expanded memory will.
Also note that the call server drivers have not yet been updated
to new formats for some of the files.
In the future I see a windows version of MSYS that will not be
as memory restricted as the current version is. To run a windows
version you will of course need a machine capable of running
windows or OS/2. The current version of MSYS will continue to be
supported but there probably won't be many new things added.
Mainly bugs will be corrected (a number of them still exist in
the TCP/IP area I am sure). I hope to look into Pactor support
when the manufacturers get the bugs out of their Pactor
implementations.
